I’m genuinely surprised it got to live on for this long. Can anyone who works in the industry be surprised that action is getting taken against it?
It "got to live for this long" because it's just a script that helps in receiving publicly available data that gets sent to you for free when you visit certain URLs. The takedown is totally invalid. Programs like wget or curl, or even browsers, are equally "guilty" as youtube-dl.
