Do you find C/C++ declaration syntax and precedence confusing? Here are some "simple" alias templates that give all kinds of declarations a uniform syntax with clear precedence:

Blind optimism is thinking that every bug you spent hours debugging is the last one.

I wanted to play CTF today, after a long time of not really having the time to play, but I ended up debugging and fixing a bug in Konsole that's been annoying me for two months now.

The asterisk belongs with the type, not the variable name. I am willing to die on this hill.

I had to get a background check for my job, and it turns out the report is a 300+ page pdf of every single tweet I’ve ever liked with the work “fuck” in it. Enjoy your dystopian bs! *waves*

That usually also results in the compiler being able to reason better about the code and inlining the sh*t out of my programs.

Every time I've written a thing in Python and complained that it's slow, and proceeded to rewrite it in Rust, I'm absolutely amazed by how much faster it is. Turns out a lot of that performance gain is due to my Rust code being much less allocation-heavy.

Under complex circumstances involving caffeine, IDA, firmware blobs and early hours of the morning, the SoC may fail to enter sleep mode. In this state, the SoC may draw twice the maximum rated brain power, despite being commanded to sleep. No known workaround.

the "flex" in "1 layer flex PCB" means "this PCB is flexible" the "flex" in "8 layer flex PCB" means "this PCB fab is flexing"

I made a brainfuck interpreter written in just C preprocessor directives. The only problem is it needs 16GB of memory to run hello world. Ooops?

we need a web page with lists of claims like "XY can be done with memset" / "type punning using X in Y situation is safe" followed by a counterexample (godbolt link?) and an excerpt from the standard.

I keep telling people at my Uni "what you are doing is undefined behaviour" — and I always get answers like "but only technically, every compiler does something sensible here anyway".

"What do you mean you just wrote this new tool!? That's not how academia works! You first have to evaluate all the other tools, and show that writing a new tool is time and resources well spent, and then write it all down. Now go back and do all of that." - My BSc Thesis Advisor

Look at that beautiful implementation 😍

A CPU instruction encoder in Rust, made via a procedural macro that does bitwise pattern-matching and binding.

Clang really likes to complain though if you add -Wstrict-prototypes

Today in "things I definitely didn't know about GCC / Clang": int foo(bar, baz) int bar; int baz; { return bar + baz; } still compiles without warnings on modern GCC / Clang with -Wall -Wextra -std=c11
