Considering there is no such Tether or Hookshot present in Breath of the Wild, I’d say him keeping it was super unlikely. It may’ve just been carried over when they brought Smash 4 Links data over to Ultimate
fun fact! while link no longer uses his hookshot for his grabs, thus removing his tether as well, he still has an unused ledgegrab detection range for his tether. perhaps he was originally going to keep his tether? or simply a remnant of smash 4? i think the latter's more likely.pic.twitter.com/4NBEiC40f7
