For the last twenty years, we have stood alongside our courageous clients and their supporting communities, activists, storytellers, and a broad cadre of other lawyers and human rights defenders in resisting every particle of the post-9/11 authoritarian architecture.

Collage of different elements with surveillance cameras at the top right corner, a “Top Secret” stamp and a group of people protesting dressed up as Guantánamo detainees at the top right. A fence is in the background in the middle. On top of it, white brush stroke with text that reads “The 9/11 Effect: Reckoning with 20 years of Injustice.” Below that, there are headshots of current and former U.S. presidents: George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden. At the bottom right corner, there’s a group of law enforcement agents and a cutout of the U.S. Capitol.

Michael Ratner was a real lawyer, a people’s lawyer, who fought for justice in the courts and the streets. He didn’t hide in the Ivory Tower and take shots at those who had the courage to act.

A powerful appreciation of the late Michael Ratner and , refuting the calumny by that fighting to end torture and indefinite detention somehow "sanitized" the war on terror.
