and let players change that. some controllers have diff defaults too so we can scale up a gc controller that does -.7 to .7 to -1 to 1.

other issue im seein just from fiddling a stick is "forward to up" would work but the more intuitive "up then forward" still wouldnt...

yeah up than forward would be worse straight off the bat. (storing the old value) but you could use the turn around logic to fix that maybe.

pick a number left or right. say .5 and -.5 that kills the previous value buffer if it was neutral (between those) or from the opposite side

yeah i think you're gonna lose something but you can probably get pretty close. you'll likely lose starting neutral > forward jump
