i joined #teamyellow and had my first pokebattle. then i talked to @itsakev about standard pokemon games and he suggested X/Y

I would do the ruby/sapphire remakes over x and y, only because the music and world is much more beautiful imo

And here is where I throw in Gold/Silver cause their hallmarks are carried over to the modern games.
