why does it feel "out of place"? does it bother you in pokemon, dark souls, etc...?

if person literally can't play a game where that person controls someone who is not him/her - why that person plays videogames?
haha obviously its not like that... just funny to frame it as one side losing their ability to choose

not every game should let you choose, especially if past games didn't let you do that, not really that hard of a concept.
