In theory, they’re supposed to “earn” their 30% cut by promoting your game to a bigger audience. But games that aren’t already popular are also disfavored by the algorithm. So people at the bottom literally get less, and now, pay more.

It’s obvious they did this to appease the biggest money interests... but it’s not good for the health of the gaming community or market. Niche, experimental games that broaden their audience like wandersong are impacted by these decisions.

If you're someone who likes indie games, I HIGHLY recommend you move your shopping to http://itch.io , where games cost the same but developers earn more. This makes a huge difference for small devs.

Fun fact, Wandersong is actually cheaper on http://itch.io --but I still earn more per purchase there.https://banov.itch.io/wandersong

How does this make sense????

in the way that it caters to AAA publishers so they stop leaving Steam and making their own stores (they still will)

They obviously don't care about studios, they just fear to lose more AAA publishers. The recent Activision tranistion to Bnet and the announce of an exclusive dlc for a game if you subscribe to the Bethesda's launcher may have been the trigger :p

I guess it makes sense from Steam's point of view to ensure big-name games don't leave the platform. And yeah, I highly recommend http://itch.io if anybody's interested in indie game playing or publishing. Seriously.

I agree. I'd like this or
@steam_games to give me a filter that eliminates all the half finished 8bit games that look like 1990 from my store feed. Either way it's a win for me, and as a consumer, my opinion is the only one that matters.
