Catching is meaningfully different from battling, and both are valid ways to strengthen your team... wild encounters and tougher trainer battles are explicitly optional... so in every way, you really get to decide the pace and how you play

I’ve mused more than once how cool it would be for Pokémon to go “open world” and let you explore the region like in breath f the wild or something... But the design changes in these games work to create the same kind of experience, I think

Oh and plus there’s so little tutorial/hand holding/mandatory text! The pacing isn’t bad! I mean yeah it’s basically just red and blue so they had that for free... but I expected them to muck it up... >_>;

I’ve played Kanto a million times and I’m STILL fired up bc of the new frictionless design... This format in a new region would rock my world. Next time, would love to see more out of order exploration. Also let me pet all my Pokémon (they already animated them for that...)

Also a longtime fan and also surprisingly enjoying the game
I think arguably the worst parts of pokemon were the need for grinding and the incessant wild battles when you're just trying to get some place. The new take solved both and made wild 'battles' fun again. -
Also agree, my one criticism so far is let us pet all the pokemon?? Why only the partner?? Also I really like the alola charater customization but the costume sets are an okay substitute.
