I am a gun violence survivor, my first instinct upon entering any place is to plan my escape in case a maniac with a gun starts shooting. I did this with Temple, too. Always sat in the sanctuary where I good get out, get help fast. Before closing for COVID19, police presence.

Having a police officer in his cruiser at the entrance did absolutely nothing to make me feel safe. 1 of our local officers was shot dead, sitting in his cruiser in front of the Police Station, while 2 blocks away we lit up the electric Menorah. His partner shot & killed the guy.

I´m a `non-Jew´. I remember it because we have to see it every day repeated against other `non-Jews´: bicyclists, truck drivers, motorists, pedestrians, diners, students, activists, citizens, voters. Basically any `non-Jew´ who has the audacity to think for themselves.

I was just drafting a Tweet about how I hope people are having a moment of silence for the Jews that were murdered today but also I hope there is a pause to reflect on how they are fighting anti-semitism in their own lives.
