    I now need to write a #Illumos SMF service manifest to get something to run at boot time. Boy do I wish that #OmniOS cron had '@reboot'.

        @darrenmoffat That could be nice if Illumos/OmniOS had that Solaris 11.3 feature, which it doesn't since Oracle closed it. @opensolaris

        .@thatcks But then you would loose the built in dependency handling, monitoring, RBAC security, etc. that comes with every SMF service.

        @yruss972 That might be great if I needed/wanted any of that. As it is, I have 50 lines of magic XML instead of a '@reboot' crontab entry.

        @thatcks with SMF you get to run it before cron and control which services it depends on. See the initial-boot SMF service as an example.
