I wish all #Illumos git commit messages had not just the issue number and title but also the URL of the issue. It'd make life much easier.

I mean, I'd really like #Illumos commit messages to have a real summary in them, but I'll settle for easily done baby steps here.

@thatcks The URL could change, and the bug may be updated with more details later — particularly for regressions. I like what we have now.

@jmclulow What #Illumos has now still leaves you needing to read the bug to understand things, with the possibility of future changes.

@thatcks My point is that you almost certainly want to look at the bug anyway, if your goal is understanding.

@jmclulow Oh, ah, sorry; I read you backwards from how you intended. Then I think Illumos ought to commit to long-term issue URLs.

@thatcks It’s unlikely that a promise like that would really mean anything, but we do strive to avoid breaking the ones that work now.

@jmclulow @thatcks So you can be somewhat assured it won’t be done for arbitrary reasons like how it’s horrible software. ;-)

@bdha @jmclulow Cheerful suggestion: all you'll need (if there ever is a change) is a lot of HTTP redirections for old bug numbers.
