@thatcks it's cool and useful, but I'd prefer something like "...|human -f 3" (borrowing cut's arguments)
GNU sort's -h option is one of those great seductive gnu-isms. I think I'll be using it quite a bit from now on. eg: du -h | sort -hr | less
