The ED is like no other unit. In essence, ED nurses are the jack of all trades and master of none. I would counter that and say ER nurses are the masters of identification and initial management of most every condition. Sure, I might not know what’s going to happen to that DKA patient 3 days from now, but I can whip out an insulin gtt, D5 and K+ in 5 mins or less
