So what this guy is saying is that anyone who loves shonen anime isn't actually an anime fan?
My favorite part of this is that this guy's straight-up saying "If your only knowledge of anime is shonen [and also these SIX OTHER DISTINCT GENRES] then you aren't a real anime fan" like shit bro that's a pretty steep entry requirement, want me to fax you my resume?
(the resume is a photo of my hand flipping him off)
No gatekeeping some people is a good thing. Mainly ones who demand change.
Explain this take because at face value it sounds dumb
my question is who the hell is this guy and who put him in charge of anime?
Established fans ought to be the guides to new folks, not armed guards.
True, but sometimes, where they need to guide people is to the door. I'm not passionate about fiction, but have empathy for those who are. Especially when they have their hobbies or communities by people who don't contrinute and demand change. Control freaks all suck.
Imagine watching ALL of One Piece just for some dude to say you're not an anime fan
