So, 500px, which positioned itself as a Flickr alternative, has announced they're deleting/removing access to all Creative Commons photos on their site. Like, tomorrow. support.500px.com/hc/en-us/artic NO warning.

There's no time for to move in. It's over 1 million CC licensed photos. Gone. Tomorrow. And then they're selling licensing through Getty Images, and a Chinese company.

Let's not fool ourselves that the new CEO is going to be that communicative while this deed goes down:

I might be misreading this, but: it says that they're removing the ability to "download and search for Creative Commons images," which seems like corpspeak for "removing the download links, and the CC checkbox in our search feature," maybe not deleting the photo pages

Yeah this means the photos will not be available as Creative Commons and deleted from the Marketplace. I kind of doubt they will delete photos from users personal galleries, most likely they will just strip the licensing information, but perhaps I'm wrong.

I would say this is shit, but here we are on Twitter and I suddenly don't want to be putting words on any site that pays its bills via advertising. So I'll go and harp on in silence on my own domain name somewhere. :-)
