Top of our leadership meeting every week: which of our SF stores were broken into, vandalized, which of our SF employees were harassed, how many windows were broken.

Have never mentioned this publicly, but we have stores all over the country and crime/employee harassment in our San Francisco stores (mostly Hayes Valley but now Chase Center as well) is 10x the rest of our stores combined.

I will use this thread to share major incidents as they happen from now on. Yesterday in Hayes, a man snuck into our backroom in daylight. When an employee went back there to ask him to leave, he went on a rampage, ripping products off shelves and breaking our signage.

Last week at our Chase Center store, at night someone attempted to break-in. They broke the first layer of glass but luckily the window is double paned and he left before he could finish the job.

I didn't think I'd be tweeting again so soon, but two women came in and robbed our Union Square SF store on Maiden Lane this morning and took a bunch of handbags. This morning in the same alley, a store employee at the location next to us was stabbed and mugged.

Another day, another robbery in our SF stores. Unmasked man clearly on drugs came in to b8ta in Hayes Valley and took an $800 product and ran out. Right in front of associates.

We made some decisions to secure our SF stores and people: 1. Immediately pausing ops in Union Square. We can't send our people to a place where there's a high chance they will be harmed or mugged. 2. Distributing that staff to other SF stores 3. All day security for Hayes

FYI, this is extremely unsustainable long term: triples occupancy cost of Hayes when already unprofitable from shelter in place. But we want to be in this city. It's our home.

I’ve seen them both dismiss these concerns as privileged techie interloper blather. Check out the outrageous tweets Boudin has sent to other small biz owners with these same complaints. They don’t care and they wish we would leave. Preston is a nice guy, but same mentality.
