Heartbroken to learn that we have lost the brilliant , analyst of central Africa who worked to see a new era of peace & prosperity led by the region's people. A terrible loss.

Blake asked me to write this op-ed, one of my first, then made it immeasurably better with his thoughtful and careful editing. It was Blake who cleverly titled it in homage to Binyavanga Wainaina (who we also lost far too soon). This is devastating news.

Briefly surfacing due to this heartbreaking news. Blake was an integral part of the best years of national security Twitter. He was a great editor from whom I learned a lot. Deepest condolences to his family, and a reminder that help is always available by texting or calling 988.

I am so shocked and so sad to hear about the tragic death of Blake Hounshell (@NYTBlake @blakehounshell.) I met him in Cairo when I was 22, on the day I got my very first newspaper job. I was excited when he joined The Times and wish I’d spent more time hanging out with him here.
