Dear Educators, Black girls are not loud - they want to be heard. Black girls are not seeking-attention - they are seeking a connection. Black girls are not aggressive - they know what they want. Black girls are not bossy - they are leaders. Last, Black girls are not adults.

Dear Educators, Many of you are highlighting Black leaders, inventors, and intellectuals this week / month. Moreover, many of you will be discussing slavery. Please note, Black people were never slaves in America. We were forcibly enslaved. Language matters - it hits different.

In 1892, Homer Plessy boarded a whites-only train car in New Orleans with the hope of getting the attention of the U.S. Supreme Court. But it would be a long time before he got justice

Happy Black History Month! Those who have no record of what their forebears have accomplished lose the inspiration which comes from the teaching of biography and history. - Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the Father of Black History

Dear Educators, Tomorrow is February 1st and the first day of Black History Month. Please note, Black history is America’s history and our history does not - and should not - begin with our forcible enslavement in America.

The education of the Negroes, then, the most important thing in the uplift of the Negroes, is almost entirely in the hands of those who have enslaved them and now segregate them. - Dr. Carter G. Woodson (1933) The Mis-Education of the Negro

School segregation not much easier today than 40 years ago. Resistance just more civil. Fundamental problem is most parents have no idea how integration improves ed for all students regardless of race or poverty—or how status quo of segregation harms both.

This is how whiteness works (see below). It dismisses knowledge that is culturally responsive and effective and when confronted with facts it becomes condescending and racist and sexist. Nevertheless, I love being a Black woman and an education professor. Selah

Y'all. This study is incredible. It hits implicit bias, calls school report cards (ahem, CCRPI) "simplistic" and poor measures of school quality, and lays bare the fact that while everyone wants integration we're not willing to do a thing about it

Black children, in particular, suffer in schools due to their race and centered in Whiteness. Whiteness is perpetuated in schools when children are racially isolated and intentionally given fewer resources, less qualified teachers, and are subject to unfair discipline policies.

‘Whiteness,’ while codified in the nation’s founding charter, is not biological. Whiteness is a social construct that serves a societal purpose. ‘White’ people, beginning with the Framers, believe they are White and identify as such to privilege their standing in society.

More than half of nation’s 50.7 million students identify as non-White; however, 80 percent of four million teachers identify as White. This mismatch is problematic as race was found to play a critical role in how teachers perceive their students’ potential for academic success.

This post / thread is clearly racist and undergirds my suspicions of liberal white folks who purport that they want to teach in communities of color to ‘save’ Black and Brown children.
