The idea of a 'deterrent to abortion' keeps coming up. Let's get something clear, you can't deter women from getting an abortion, but you can lower the abortion rate through comprehensive sex ed, access to cheap and cost-effective contraception, and publicly funded health care.

Anything other than this is not an attempt to lower the abortion rate, but an attempt to criminalise and punish women.

Leanne Linard (ALP) says that abortion needs to be treated as a public health issue. Notes that countries where abortion is legalised have lower abortion rates.

Sam O'Conner (LNP) acknowledges that he will never have to decide whether to have an abortion, but that he is in the position of having to decide what's right for women. Let me fix this for you: vote for the proposed legislation then you won't actually have to decide, she will.

Here's a question to all the LNP MPs (wrongly) claiming no one has been charged with illegally procuring an abortion... if no one is being charged (they have been), why are they voting to keep it in the criminal code?

Michael Hard (LNP) says that he visited a doctor who refused to perform a circumcision on his son and they didn't have to 'refer on' so women should have to find their own doctor if one is a conscientious objector...

That should be normal. Any doctor have to comply with the Hippocratic Oath: "First, do no harm" So no circumcision for healthy boys. Children should be protected from medical malpractice.
