And of course, “continued investment in LNG infrastructure on ships and on shore risks making it harder to transition to zero-emission vessels in the future.”

The climate implications of using LNG as a marine fuel: Not Good. The most popular LNG marine engine is also the leakiest, leaking lots of methane. Turns out there may be no climate benefit from using LNG—may release more greenhouse gases than traditional fuels.

“natural gas use is growing so fast globally that the rise in CO2 emissions from gas has eclipsed the decline in emissions from coal.” & then add the leaks: “one 2018 accident at an Ohio gas well leaked more methane than the entire oil & gas industry of Norway does in a year.”

“The Guardian will no longer accept advertising from oil and gas companies, becoming the first major global news organisation to institute an outright ban on taking money from companies that extract fossil fuels.” A good start, who will take this further?

This is a good thread. But ppl fail to appreciate the scale of fracking that is poised to take hold in USA in the next ten years is way way beyond PA, any state. The scale of LNG + Cracker plants + new pipes + new plants is way beyond what the public understands.

Nice follow-up article to Thomas Fuller’s previous piece on the success of Aboriginal land stewards using Aboriginal fire practices in Australia. Indigenous people know how to manage their own land—we should let them.

The ongoing Australian Bushfires have already released more CO2 than the combined annual emissions of more than 100 countries put together.

Even without the fires, Australia has a had in significant emissions at home - and via exported coal and gas burnt abroad.
