When people say Rust is better than C++ it's not some kind of cult that merit free tries to push a view. It's truly a next gen evolution of a systems language that solves so many bugs/footguns in the old C++ stack (yea even c++ 2042) its almost absurd.

Happy Monday, Y'all! A quote to start the week off well: "If anyone speaks ill of you, do not make excuses about what is said of you, but answer: 'He was ignorant of my other faults, else he would not have mentioned these alone'." --Epictetus

The thing I hate about Python, or "untyped" languages in general, is this thing where you get an *inscrutable* type error 4 layers deep inside a library Does this mean I called hg.repository with an argument of the wrong type? Does it mean mercurial has a bug? Who knows!

one thing i am becoming more aware of as i spend more time playing with dotnet stuff after spending so long on rust stuff: rust's culture of documentation is so good. the fact that rust ships a high-quality documentation tool alongside the compiler affects the culture so much

My first time writing Go I was pairing with someone, about 30 seconds in I say "ok, so where is the map function exactly?" The look on their face said it all

It's taken me many years to learn that at work, when people misread or misunderstand emails I write, a longer reply that's more precise is never helpful. The only thing that ever helps is to drop all nuance and reply with the fewest simplest words possible.

PSA: when your elementary school peers corner you to demand you stop using big words, asking them to specify a letter or syllable count so you can comply is not actually helpful.

I do not understand why so many people are freaking out about multiplication being commutative? This thread is confusing and disorienting to read.

It's striking how eager people are to give *totally contradictory* answers to why they won't get frozen: "The upload won't be you. Also, what if they torture you forever? But it won't work anyway. It's also selfish to live indefinitely. Did I mention it won't work anyway?"

I remember a tech publisher turned pundit opining that Facebook couldn't fix this because editorial review "doesn't scale".

Can the people who wish to ban certain questions write them all down them in a Google document and circulate to the rest of us please? And make sure you all agree on what they are first. Cheers. We'll be waiting.

Why do so many recipe and DIY crafting guide go out of their way to grant me permission to adjust batch sizes or ingredient ratios? Are there really people out there who won't adjust a recipe unless the author grants permission?
