I'm horrified that most folks in the U.S. are only familiar with the Molly Shannon / Selma Blair U.S. version. That was awful.

Agree and that is not the first or last time a great overseas property has been redone for the US market only to make it really suck.

But U.S. versions aren’t necessarily worse. “All In The Family” was better than “Till Death Do Us Part” and the U.S. version of “The Office” was on par with the U.K. version. Art is subjective and television is a collaborative medium. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

BTW to your point All in the Family did prove the US show could be better. But Norman Lear's sadly aren't in abundance. I once got to meet him at his favorite deli, quite an honor. Met many celebs, he stands above most for being kind in accepting a bit of fanboying.
