Would add one thing. Don't do the Valentine's Day thing. Agree with your partner they & you need random and most needed days to surprise I love you events. No waxy drugstore chocolates or wilted flowers. Actually write a heartfelt letter and a gift that makes them feel loved.

Definitely! I found some venison at the store. We'd never had it before, and I cooked an amazing meal for the three of us, my husband found a bottle of my favorite wine, and we watched Friends while we ate dinner. It was better than any prewrapped Valentines gift box.
