The only way a larger waist argument makes sense is: "Oh I'm in a caloric surplus, which definitely is correlated to strength, buy has absolutely nothing to do with the waist it's self. I can link multiple videos and examples of 120-150lb athletes deadlifting 500lb+

Lifting heavy shit comes down to leverages and neurological adaptation. Maybe your leverages require a larger core but it's case by case. Increasing your core size does not mean your lifts will go up.

Also yes, sometimes you just need more muscle mass to be strong. At my current weight I'll never deadlift 800lb. It's basically impossible unless I physically grow.. But again, that has nothing to do with Bigger core = PR It's just not true.
