Humans have this weird need to make sense of everything. We cannot just let things be as they are. So we reread history and find single nodes of similarity. We then connect those nodes to modern happenings and say they are patterns or cyclical.

We are obsessed with patterns because it is the only way we know how to make sense of things. We apply past knowledge to current situations.

In reality this is a false illusion. There is no patter. There is no cycle. You could argue there are a few common events or traits, but they are not patterns. History does not repeats itself. It cannot. There are too many factors. The human brain hates this.
