    Just a regular day translating “When a woman gets hold of money, she becomes difficult.” into Greek because the textbook tells me so.

    Bottom line: the CNN newsroom probably needs more women editing headlines, or it needs to listen better to the ones they have. Also, more people should read Fricker. @katemanne also discusses these topics in Down Girl, with more up-to-date bibliography.

    As a result, testimony by women is discounted or ignored altogether. Fricker describes this kind of epistemological injustice in chapter 6. She calls it “silencing” via “epistemic objectification.” (She doesn’t talk only about women, but women are a central example.)

    But there’s a background tendency for people (especially men, but not only men) to downgrade what women say. Paraphrasing Fricker, people don’t see women as bearers of knowledge, so what women say is (often) not heard or fully listened to.

    Re last two retweets: I’m reading Miranda Fricker’s Epistemic Injustice, and she explains very clearly what leads to headlines like that. Certainly women who run are keenly aware that there is a horrifying amount of harassment of women who run. Many women talk about the problem.
