    Egypt has pledged to accelerate customs clearance for ages. The wildly inefficient customs regime has been a drag on the economy & innovation for years. It's also a subsidy for military companies that don't pay customs & additionally do not bear cost of long wait times for goods

    Unpopular opinion: I am glad that the WH staff is getting vaccinated. They are a small number and will not meaningfully delay others. I hope Trump does it on TV. So many people will look to this WH for a cue on getting the vaccine. It is good that they see Trumpworld getting it.

    After months of stalling, the courts seem to be in a sudden rush. Loujain's case is back in court tomorrow morning. Several others are scheduled this month as well. They are insisting to continue this judicial farce.

    The absurdity of the charges against Loujain still haunt me: -Receiving per diems -Applying for a job at the UN -Asking about someone who was released from jail -Trying to get mental health support for activists -Talking to journalists What a farce of a judicial system.

    A lot of countries could devote much less resources to improving their public image if they simply stopped jailing, torturing & murdering critics. Give it a try.

    If Iran’s government is unhappy with international criticism, they could always just stop murdering dissidents & journalists. Just an idea...

    I guess the whole world is just now realizing that reads like a group of angry uninformed conservative middle schoolers who inarticulately repeat nonsense they hear from their parents. Although in this case the piece seems to have been written by one of their parents

    I’d like to thank for making the first paragraph of this op-ed available to non-subscribers. It’s all you need to know to dismiss the douchebro argument without a second thought..

    A development coinciding with Aguileh and Haftar rebuilding their friendship in the East. UAE, Egypt, Russia seem to be making a new play while Turkey postures. If the UN dont pull off something in the next week they'll have squandered the best chance for real peace in years

    On a serious note though, indications point to a dangerous regrouping of Tripoli's militias--including the one that controls the intelligence agencies-- in a confrontation with the interior ministry. Things may get much uglier in Tripoli

    And if history is our guide they're likely to be released before completing this meager sentence for such a horrific crime.

    Egypt policemen who tortured a man to death were sentenced to 3 yrs in jail. Good to finally see them pay something for their crime. Sad they’re staying fewer years in jail than many political prisoners, some of whom are still in jail without a verdict.

    So the guy who wrote this column trashing Jill Biden for earning an actual PhD and being referred to as doctor even though she doesn’t have an MD also doesn’t have an MD? Or a PhD he earned? And he gets to write a whole column on this?!? White male privilege is fucking wild.

    The author could’ve used fewer words to just say “ya know in my day we didn’t have to respect women.”

    The argument that we shouldn’t act prematurely on M4All presupposes a foreseeable future in which the house could *pass* the bill. But if they’re willing to vote it down in the middle of a global pandemic that’s kicked 14 million Americans off their insurance, I’m not optimistic.
