Open question: why do you think politicians find it so convenient to use mental illness as insult? I know it's not just politicians. What I want to know is, is there a special attraction politicians feel towards words denoting mental illness while taking on their opponents? Why?
Aim: to do character assassination of oppo using most derogatory term (which is not illegal) prevalent in the culture. Only "mental illnesses" fulfill the above criteria. Speaks a lot about our society n culture than about the politician who uses the term!
