AFAIU: the cmdline and environment can be gigantic. the "comm" field in task_struct, in which the Linux kernel stores a task's name as reported via /proc/$pid/comm, is just 16 bytes big. AFAIK the cmdline and environment can use something like 6MB (see get_arg_page()).
