yeah, exactly, that's what i'm wondering: for modern side-channel timing attacks, what's the observable quantum? A single-cycle timing difference in a loop? (i have no idea and am genuinely curious)

Fascinating. What's the current quantum for DPA and side-channel timing attacks? If post-load bitwise ops are optimized away, and you have linear pre-fetch, cache is always warm so you're mostly losing the ^ and |=, right? Still viable attack?
