Why don't people link to the results of your their work instead? "5 times in hall of fame x" doesn't mean anything.

the minimal amount of work required to report a bug to a vendor is to send them something they understand

AFAICS when people who find bugs in their free time want to make a bug public, they often rewrite the whole report with way more details

so in practice, making a bug report public increases the amount of work required quite a bit because a public report needs more context

also, some programs discourage making reports public unilaterally - e.g. @Hacker0x01, even for bugs fixed years ago, requires vendor consent

Show how your work advances the state-of-the-art. Finding 5 self XSSes gets you 5 hall of fame entries = no impact.

If you developed a tool to find those 5 bugs or if you blogged about the uncommon explotation technique used then you had impact.

are there many people who have that kind of impact with hobby projects? I don't think any tools I wrote are big/mature enough for a CV entry

Would you put hall of fame entries into your CV? What would you get hired "5 times hall of fame" or "5 blog posts on interesting bugs"?

I guess you have a link to your website/blog ... that should contain references to your (personal / free time) bugs / tools, no?

my website has something like three writeups on it, but I normally don't post about one-off bugs there
