and it's a sufficiently fundamental tradeoff that I believe users should ideally be able to make it. also: when I use youtube, or read a news article over https, or anything like that, I expect that anyone sniffing my traffic can potentially see what I'm doing anyway

Is there a good summary of the practical privacy properties of HTTPS given known traffic analysis techniques? When designing anything new, it'd be good to know what we currently have.
