I did a small memory usage experiment on my PC. I have 16GB RAM and 8GB swap; it looks as if the 1755 tasks running under my UID are currently using about 19MB RAM for unused userspace thread stack areas (below the redzone), plus 9MB swap for unused userspace thread stackspic.twitter.com/WMB8qfSNTw

(I tested this because I was wondering if it'd be worth the effort to teach Linux to discard such pages instead of swapping them. I figured that given userspace stacks with 8MiB of virtual memory, maybe there'd be a significant number of tasks with tons of wasted memory?)
