It is a horrible thing the US government is doing. They are arresting those who cross outside of designated crossings with a misdemeanor, thus making them ineligible for asylum, all before letting them plead their case for asylum

And not only that, at designated crossings the border guards either block access to the American side OR intimidate those who do step foot onto American soil to step back onto Mexican soil, which is illegal.
