    But the report doesn't mention research that has found that students who do gap years complete college faster (in closer to 4 years rather than the 5 or 6 years that is now the norm for many students).

    A new estimate from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York says taking a college gap year could mean forgoing $90K in earnings over the course of a student's lifetime.

    The PSLF Help Tool now lets borrowers search an employer database to see if their loans qualify. Just tested it with my husband's loans/employer and it worked without too much friction.

    Nice job adding the eligible employer database to the tool. Hopefully this helps reduce borrower anxiety and increases their ability to make choices such as job changes without having a negative affect on their eligibility.

    As my former colleague reports, being a student loan expert doesn't necessarily make paying off your own college debt any less of a slog. But she's finally done!! Congrats, Anna!

    I wrote this first person piece on paying off my own student loan debt. No extreme measures involved.

    Private student loans are a small segment of the student loan market, but they're still a significant portion of total U.S. consumer debt. And, as this report shows, private loan origination has been growing as federal student loan origination is in decline.

    There is now almost $130 billion in private student loan debt in the U.S. That’s more $$ than both the payday loan market and the total amount of past-due medical debt.

    This woman at one of Milwaukee's five polling places yesterday was trying to do something nice by handing out candy to voters waiting in long lines, but I feel like I watched the virus spread before my eyes as various un-gloved voters dipped their hands into her basket.

    As it gets to be dinnertime here, a woman is walking around handing out free McDonald’s cheeseburgers, and a BBQ truck has parked across the street from this polling location (Marshall High School).

    A poll worker reminding people to stay 6ft apart. (You can’t tell from this photo, but it down-poured and people are soaked. The line is slightly shorter as a result, but many people are still sticking it out.)

    This perfect storm is becoming a literal storm, with cracks of thunder and rain beginning. Poll workers are handing out black, plastic garbage bags for the people who don’t have umbrellas. This drive-thru voting line is slower than the standing line, but at least we’re dry.

    I’ve seen several people standing in line wearing scrubs — bless these people for exercising their right to vote after a day of working on the front lines of this virus.
