I think I have figured out why I am so uneasy with the UG article. Hear me out. God I hope this comes out right. It's because it felt, to me, like victim-blaming & not 'root cause'. Or at least, blaming the wrong people and wrong targets.

For some time I have felt unease at GC feminists' centering transwomen - not because I don't like the people (I do, very much), but because I feel that often we use them as props to do our dirty/hard work for us, when they shouldn't have to.

I know that in my journey, I've often been tempted to do the "I'm not a transphobe, I have loads of trans friends, SEE?" thing. Because NOBODY decent ever wants to be called a bigot or hateful when they're not. Remember: it is NORMAL to want to prove you're not what they say.

So, that article, whilst I agree in principle with the ideas in it - that feminism should be centering women - OF COURSE - the reason I didn't like it was because it felt like women and GC trans were being blamed for something that is actually the fault of TRAs.

If Transactivists didn't go around calling us transphobic/bigots/hate groups, getting us fired, and having every single organisation accusing us of 'hate' & 'bigotry'... if actually listened to feminists... this wouldn't be an issue. We wouldn't NEED them.

I am tremendously grateful that people like @FionneOrlander @Rose_Of_Dawn @MsBlaireWhite @ScottNewgent @DebbieHayton etc put their necks out. They help keep me SANE when the world is calling me something I am not. If not for them, I would have succumbed to the gaslighting by now.

Now, sorry, don't get me wrong. I am 100% not advocating for using people in this way. I hope this comes out the way I intended. I am saying that it is only natural that we would elevate trans voices, because otherwise we'd be written off completely.

It upsets me that radical feminism isn't seen as a body of thought worthy of listening to in its own right. It upsets me that feminism has been hijacked by the likes of Jameela Jamil. But BE HONEST. Having GC trans people on our side HELPS US.

Now, look, it's shitty that I even have to talk about other human beings in this way. I'm sorry if it comes out wrong. But radical feminism is about root causes, correct?

In this instance, the root cause of this division is the threats and authoritarianism of gender extremists and TRAs, who brand us as transphobic (not true) or ignorant (not true) or "lived experience" etc. THEY ARE TO BLAME. It's only natural to then try to prove them wrong.

Much like being against prostitution and porn is about root causes and not attacking the individuals, but critiquing the patriarchal context that choices are made in, that article was making judgements about individuals making less than ideal choices, but UNDERSTANDABLE ones.

So it wasn't looking at the root cause. It was ignoring the reality that having transwomen as allies HELPS US. They let us wear them as a shield. And for that we should be grateful. The root cause is the threats from TRAs. The culprits are TRAs.

And that's why I took issue with the article - because radical feminism is about identifying root causes, but this one didn't do that. So, can we please stop singling out individuals for making imperfect decisions in a hostile situation?

I wish we could just be heard without having to keep proving we aren't evil bigots. That article is a TRA's dream come true, the anti-feminist's dream come true, and lays blame at the feet of women who are being punched from every fucking direction.

Can we lay blame where it belongs? Which is at the foot of every person who forces reluctant and rational GC trans people to be used as a football, and women to have to trot out their trans friends like Pokemon in order to be heard? THE ROOT CAUSE. God I hope I said this right.

The fact is, we WIN THE ARGUMENT. Hands down. But we only win if the argument gets heard. When we are accused of bigotry and transphobia and hate, nobody listens. So, GC trans & men, thank you for helping us with this. But yeah, give more women credit, airtime & money. lol.

The fact of the matter is under patriarchy, women don't get heard on our own. Whether its allying with the prohibitionists for DV, or having men defend us, or Christians or trans allies. Suddenly women have a voice that gets heard? WE NEED ALLIES TO BE HEARD. Love youse.

PS just for clarity's sake: I am not a Gender Critical Feminist. I am, and always have been, a Feminist. It's a broad school with lots of complex perspectives. You don't own Feminism any more than fucking Butler does, so please go and create the No-Homers if clubs are your thing.
