It was 47.7c/117f in Western Sydney today. Without significant rainfall (did I mention we're in the midst of a major drought?) they're expected to continue burning for weeks to months.

Today an evacuation was ordered for 30,000 square miles / 100,000 people. For many the only way to evac is via the sea, as the fires push east from the mountains.pic.twitter.com/NgoF0X1MvG
