So apparently donuts got their hole in the center because balls of dough are tough to cook evenly.
Some cultures removed the center (hole), and some cultures put stuff you don't need to cook (filling).
Interesting way to pivot.

Not an expert, but I guess if you fill the center of a donut with jam / chocolate cream, then that doesn’t really need to cook further.

Nice video! I always thought that donuts had holes in them because when they're spherical, not proved very well and the gas fills up, they float like a baloon, hard to flip. But the torus shaped ones float better in oil. It felt like a more "foolproof" way of frying doughnuts.
