Nice job by @GaryMarcus
https://thegradient.pub/gpt2-and-the-nature-of-intelligence/ …. I agree on every point.
(Well, except for the one reference to "genuine understanding"...) 1/

What if we keep building that taller ladder though, because the industry has spent so much money & time anthropomorphizing from 'breakthroughs' like AlphaGo, BERT, GPT-2 'the first interview with an AI'.......

Good statement! The more probable some words are the less information they are carrying. Shannon’s information theory defines information as the opposite of what is probable. Reasoning can start when you have filtered out all the fluent chatting and just look at the information!

I wonder if we can train an AI to mindlessly predict the likes each of us will produce. If so, we don’t really need to attend to Twitter anymore.

@GaryMarcus GPT-2 seems to be very good at what Broca's area is doing in the brain. What seems to be missing in GPT-2 is Wernicke's area. D you agree that utterances of people with Wernicke's aphasia (fluent aphasia) sound a lot like GPT-2 output? E.g.:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oef68YabD0 … -
I'm curious if language models could be used to help people with Broca's aphasia (non-fluent aphasia). If we could read with reliability what somebody wants to say, maybe GPT-2 could say that for a patient with damage to Broca's area.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWC-cVQmEmY …
