        Google doesn't generally evaluate eng candidates based on whether they remember API names, etc.

        fair enough, I'd still argue the code puzzle stuff filters for similar less relevant traits. But sure you need something to filter.

        I don't know that much about research interviews. We have more engineering openings than in non-eng research.
