My physicist brain immediately flagged those numbers. Let's do some napkin math. If an average book takes 5 hours to read, then 300 books is 1500 hours a year, which is about 6 months of 8 hours of reading per day. Seems like a lot, but certainly there is a right number!

I used to read extremely quickly as a young child. But approx. when I got a phone, my reading speed fell 10x. Not because of the speed itself, but because I couldn't focus on a book nearly as much. I guess I read more tweets tho

Textbooks might be better than books in this regard. Practice your fundamentals, then try to "postdict" recent papers. You train yourself to invent the future.
