Reminds of the time Google Picasa (desktop client) took my Google Image Search BMP parser and replaced the unsigned ints with signed ones. Kind of the inverse :-)

I've actually seen other vendors make subtle changes to unrar, one time a vendor changed all the strncpy to strcpy

This goes to prove the old adage: thou shalt only use *signed* integers. unsigneds are not to be trusted.

Except a lot of operations and overflow/underflow are UB/unspecified for signed integers. Have to be careful either way.
