Hey, I'm totally fine with people saying that security vendors make outrageous claims, that their products aren't as good as we think they are. That they also increase the threat surface and that they need to sandbox their stuff and what not.

But saying that they don't make a difference, that is simply not true for most people. And it's actually harmful advice.

Personally I learned about security by working at the coal face and seeing what actually works :) But not all organisations have the same type of threat. If you sell pencils as a business it's different from if you are MI5 for example.

And what did that coalface teach you, that when you get antivirus alerts you must be secure? That's *not* what it means, that means that the only thing standing between you and disaster is flipping a few bits.
