OK, if you mean blacklisting in that the technology is largely responsive, in a very generic sense, by design (and not just "AV is just signatures") then I agree.

There's a big difference between targeted attacks and simple malware attacks. Even if we call it 'just' blacklisting, it works.

I don't agree, the issue is that AV corps don't want to annoy customers so they chose to blacklist rather than whitelist. Strategically whitelisting presents a much smaller attack surface to defend. This is why AVs need to constantly update file or behavioural signatures
