I agree, insofar as it educates defenders that weren't aware such things are possible it is helpful. Insofar as it lowers the barrier to entry, it is harmful. As you said, 'nobody can say they didn't know this was possible yesterday'.

Right, that's my point. Everyone knew this was possible yesterday, and did nothing. Today there's concern about the problem. That's a positive and useful change, right? Attacker capabilities haven't really increased, but we might see some useful pressure to patch.

There's a class of actor that scans all IP space for vulns on their own. I wonder if this increases actors that can do similar (by removing the need to scan IP space) or if effectively anyone who would be interested in in doing this is already scanning all IP space anyway.
