We can't get the CORS/RFC1918 stuff shipped soon enough. Every Windows application I look at lately seems to start some broken web-reachable http endpoint.

I don't think there's any valid "really must" situation that doesn't boil down to "too lazy/stupid to use proper native IPC mechanisms". Even with Electron, you can just expose an API to the page instead of running a whole damn HTTP server with it!
