Yep, but the context here is "how to not get hacked" guides. If you're not running random untrusted executables, then antivirus is a liability. If you are running untrusted exes, then you're gonna get hacked.

Are there any studies showing the efficacy of antivirus across a spectrum of users, comparing those running AV against those without? Or is this all opinion?

Efficacy rated by metrics to do with productivity, uptime, time between support events etc.
