We are way off-topic, but iOS is an example of widely deployed whitelisting for avg users and nobody sees it as an impediment. It can work.

pretty sure you can have any of those, just choose an anti-malware product that does it. One short cut: white listing publisher certifcates

Exactly, vendors are quick to dismiss whitelisting as infeasible while developing ridiculous blacklisting schemes.
