Achievement unlocked, found an editor configuration that vim doesn't have. I asked on the mailing list if they could add it and they lectured me on how options are bad... in vim?!

It's minor, but if you CTRL-W in insert mode, by default it stops at the point you started inserting. I find that annoying, but you can't disable it. The default is backspace=indent,eol,start but the 'start' only applies to <BS> not CTRL-W.

Not sure if you're interested, but neovim has the behaviour you expected, even though ":help bs" shows the same description for "start" as for vim.

Huh, thanks, that is interesting! I'll try it out, hopefully they don't consider it a bug
